Always awesome to get out to shoot Sean Bowley and Eden for promo and live. These were taken at 'A Day on the Green' at the St. Kilda Bowling Club.
Eva McGowan, Camberwell Shoot
Every once in a while a shoot comes along which combines all the elements one could possibly hope for. In this instance, I was invited to shoot my amazing friend singer/songwriter, Eva McGowan in a beautiful art deco house once owned by her grandparents. The house was soon to be sold and possibly demolished.
In particular, Eva had not known her grandmother of whom she was named after, so being in the house and capturing these images held great significance for her and added an extra dimension to the shoot. As we explored the space within the house and the light each room had to offer, there was a growing sense of connection to a generation past, of memory and of spirit.
The idea of the images shot in the bathroom using the mirror came from Eva herself. Eva was referencing a photograph she had of her grandmother standing in front of that same mirror some sixty years earlier. The mirror itself being in some way a conduit connecting generations through time- connected by heritage, place and name.
Jude Craig, Textile Artist
Every year in the Dandenong Ranges, the 'Open Studios' artist initiative comes around http://www.openstudios.org.au/. This is when artists living in the local area open their creative spaces to members of the general public to visit. At this particular time, artists are in full swing preparing for the weekend of 16th & 17th April when their doors will be opened to the many visitors who will take advantage of this unique opportunity to experience artists working in their studios.
I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to visit and shoot Textile Artist, Jude Craig from Naturally Dyed in her home studio. While we chatted over coffee, Jude was in the process of preparing a vat of indigo dye using natural ingredients. Watching her prepare the dye, I could immediately sense the passion she had for her craft by the care and accuracy by which she worked. It was such a privilege to be in company with a true artisan of her trade.
Easter at Aireys
There's nothing better than exploring and relaxing with family on Easter Sunday. The family and I took a road trip out to Aireys Inlet, just east of Geelong to take in some coastal vibes and share lunch in a beautiful location. The ocean was stunning, the air was cool and the landscape was spectacular- all key ingredients for an afternoon well spent.
Eden at the Gasometer
Every now and again I have the opportunity to shoot a live music performance. When Sean from 'Eden' contacted me about shooting one of their gigs at the Gasometer in Collingwood, I was well chuffed to step up to the plate. The combination of live music and photography puts me in my element. Of course, one must make sure that the technical aspect of camera work is ship shape at a live music shoot, but to ensure that you can walk away feeling that both yourself and the client will be happy with the shots, there is an element of letting go; of working intuitively with the music, the performance and the atmosphere on the night. Enjoy!
